Based in West County Clare, Ireland, between Inagh and Miltown Malbay, Brigid Rynne is an experienced dressmaker and seamstress offering a unique and comprehensive design and dressmaking service. Brigid has been making designer wedding, evening and occasion wear for over 30 years. Her background includes workroom experience with London designers, Bellville Sassoon, and professional qualifications from Central St. Martin’s College in London and Joan Cashman’s Colour and Image Academy in Cork.
Brigid offers both a bespoke design service, creating unique garments that start with a sketch, and a made-to-measure dressmaking service, using commercial patterns. If you often have difficulty finding the perfect fit or the current season’s colours do nothing for you, consider having an outfit custom made. An initial dressmaking consultation costs nothing and Brigid will use her expertise to guide you through the most flattering styles, fabrics and colours.
Whatever you are looking for, be it a dream wedding dress, a prom gown, or an outfit for a day at the races, if you are uninspired by what you see in the shops, Brigid offers a practical alternative to ordering blind over the Internet. Although she can’t quite compete with the Chinese for cost, she can offer the reassurance of quality fabric and a great fit, and you can pick the exact fabric and/or colour you want from real samples rather than a computer screen.
Not sure where to start? Brigid has plenty of books and fashion magazines for ideas, or choose a design from the latest Vogue and Butterick catalogues.
On the other hand, if you are simply looking for a practical dressmaker, Brigid will be equally happy to put together your chosen pattern from your own fabric or even copy a favourite dress*. Contact her for pricing information, using the form.
*Please note that Brigid will only copy from your own garment and the original will be required to be produced for reference. She will not copy from photographs or sketches that may be subject to copyright and, in particular, will not copy from the current season’s designer collections.
If you’ve bought something that doesn’t quite fit as well as it might, it may be worth paying a dressmaker for a professional alteration. It is a relatively straightforward matter to take in or take up a dress that is a couple of sizes too big. Larger alterations might require a bit of creativity due to the potential for changing the overall character of the garment. Likewise, letting out and lengthening can be more tricky due to inadequate seam and hem allowances (particularly at the cheaper end of the market), but is sometimes possible.
Though Brigid specialises in bespoke and made-to-measure wedding, prom and occasion wear, she also offers the following services:
- Alterations and remodelling ladies’ clothing
- Dressmaking classes
- Vogue and Butterick pattern agent
- Image & style consultations
- Colour & makeup consultations
- Workshops and bridal parties
